170815 Weimar Russischer-Hof 0187

1996

The hotel and the apartment residences were taken over by the Derag Hotel Group from Munich. The hotel continued to run for a few more months and was then closed for substantial refurbishment. During that period, all employees found "shelter" in other Derag establishments.

1999

The "Russischer Hof" reopened its hospitable doors just in time for the start of Weimar's tenure as Europe's Capital of Culture. Thanks to the use of exquisite materials and lavish attention to details such as crystal chandeliers, Flemish tapestries and fanciful leaf-gold inlays, the house is fully restored to its former glory.

Service provisions in and around the hotel were extended. From turn-down-service in the evening to 24-hour room service: no wish remains unmet. The outstanding cuisine of the Anastasia Restaurant delights the taste buds of culinary connoisseurs. The "Russischer Hof" transformed into top-class establishment known as the "Grand Hotel Russischer Hof zu Weimar"

2004

The "Grand Hotel Russischer Hof" took an active role in the annual Pèlerinages art festival in Weimar staged inaugurated in the city in 2004 under the direction of Dr. Nike Wagner.

2005

The annual remembrance of the birthday of Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna is one of the highlights in the Weimar social calendar. In the evening, the price winners of the Maria-Pavlovna grant are given the opportunity to perform in front of an interested audience. After the concert in the palace, guests are invited to a gala banquet in the "Russischer Hof", in cooperation with the Franz Liszt School of Music Weimar.

2007

In cooperation with the Liszt School of Music Weimar, the "Grand Hotel Russischer Hof" establishes the first Founder's Day to support the foundation set up in the preceding year with the purpose of providing financial assistance for special projects in the School of Music.

2008

This year marked the 300th anniversary of the arrival of Johann Sebastian Bach, the grand master of music, in Weimar. The anniversary was marked with many concerts and events in Weimar and the surrounding region - the inaugural "Bach Biennale Weimar". The "Grand Hotel Russischer Hof" is an active sponsor of the "Bach in Weimar e.V." association organising the event. This sponsorship includes hosting a series of concerts, a "Hofgespräch" ("Court Symposium") and a year-long cultural programme at the "Russiche Hof".

2010

Joining the Best Western brand as the Best Western Premier Hotel Grand Hotel Russischer Hof marks a new era in the hotel's history. This decision was based on the outstanding reputation and high profile of this globally active hotel chain.

2011

Under the motto of "A European in Thuringia", the music world celebrated the 200th birthday of Franz Liszt, the phenomenal pianist, composer and director. At his Weimar place of work of this outstanding musical personality, the "Russischer Hof" had from 1841 become the meeting place for his friends and contemporary musicians. To mark this anniversary, the Best Western Premier Grandhotel Russischer Hof presents itself as the Liszt Hotel in the great composer's tradition and welcomes its guest - like Franz Liszt used to - with a warm: "Bon soir - my dears!".
